  High speed flow control
A lot has changed for the manufacturers and users of sensors since the introduction of the ATEX guidelines (94/9/EC) on 01 July 2003. There have been a lot of changes, particularly in zones which are rarely or only briefly explosion hazardous areas.

Many customers are uncertain because of these new regulations and technical inspection authorities are focused on these very areas. This has created a very big demand and only very few approved products are currently available. TURCK has closed this gap to the greatest possible extent.

Non-intrinsically safe (3-wire DC) sensors are now also approved for use in zone 2 or 22 by declarations of conformity. The range of products includes inductive and capacitive sensors as well as magnetic-field sensors for pneumatic cylinders. These sensors are ideally suited for use in the most harsh of industrial environments. They are available, for example, as threaded barrel devices (M12, M18 and M30 housings) in stainless steel housings. Rectangular sensors with a switching distance of up to 50 mm (flush) round off the product range. The inductive sensors are protected to IP68 degree of protection from the Uprox factor 1 sensor range. These devices offer further advantages such as large switching distances for all metals, which means that there is no reduction factor for example, with the detection of stainless steel.

Device category II 3 G (Zone 2) sensors are used particularly in areas which are explosion hazardous due to gasses, for example, in the chemical and petrochemical industries. Devices of category II 3 D (Zone 22) are used primarily in very high dust content environments, for example, in mills, the foodstuffs and feed industries as well as in the pharmaceutical industry. TURCK also provides sensors which a suited to both environments. This presents system designers and engineers with universal application possibilities in gas and dust relevant industrial environments. The sensors are assigned with the ATEX II 3 GD marking.

On sensors with M12 female connectors, it is necessary to ensure that the connector cannot separate when energized. A safety clip which is clipped around the coupling nut has been developed for this purpose. Every sensor with a plug connector from this series is supplied with a safety clip from TURCK to ensure the use of these sensors is as user friendly as possible.
